I thought that the last test we took on tues dealing with the movie american history x was great. What a great movie. I wish we could of watched the whole entire thing. For those of you that havent seen it derek ends up killing a black guy who was trying to steal his car and gets sentenced to prison. When he gets into prison he naturally goes and hangs with the white nazi inmates. Then Derek sees the white guys getting drugs from the mexicans and selling them to other white guys. Derek does not like this and shuns the group, he then proceeds to get raped by the nazis in the bathroom. When in prison he has work detail with a black inmate they grow to like eachother and derek sees that all the garbage he was buying into earlier in his life was wrong. blaming other people for his problems. He eventually gets out of prison shuns all of his old friends and tries to get his brother out of his old nazi gang. At the end of the movie his brother goes to school and in the bathroom of school a black kid shoots and kills him.
I wonder if Derek keeps following his new found path of not judging people souly on their color. I think he is gonna change. His father was killed by a black man and now his brother was killed by a black man. It would take a lot of discipline to keep his views of not judging people. If a certain race came into my house and killed my brother, then came into my house again on a seprate ocassion and killed my father. I am not going to lie i would probably have some resent towards that culture no matter what color they were.
Another point about the movie is how ideas and speeches can motivate and fuel a mob to do crazy things. He has al of those white boys brainwashed in the parking lot scene to think that the workers in the super market are making times hard for them. They need to realize that only yourself is the one that creates trouble for yourself. If that makes sense. Its real easy to blame somebody else for your problems
